Interview with Trev Kill of Negative Earth !!!

Trev Kill and I had a chat and here it is!

Trev -Disco.  I await the questions.

BSK-First question, Just for the readers who may or may not know your band or your music can you tell us how you started and what was your influence?

Trev- I started playing music in my teens.  After I quit as the drummer for a rap core band when I was 21, I began playing guitar again in various projects.  Once I realized that my vision was derailed by writing within a band, I started working on my own creations.  My good friend/producer Myron Wegner offered to produce my solo album.  I moved to Calgary at the age of 26 and started to learn the whole writing/producing process from a professional sound engineer/producer.  He dedicated a great deal of time for me and made sure to compete it in its highest quality.
Once the songs were written and tracked, I chose a name for the project, built the website and social media underground.  When it was ready to surface, I began putting a band together and started to book live shows.
My influences have changed over the years, but the bands that made an impact on me while writing my debut album Antithesis, are as follows.  Tool, Meshuggah, Stabbing Westward, NIN, Korn, Opeth and American Head Charge.

BSK-Your influences come out strong in your music and with your own touch it seems to bring back sounds we have not heard in a while! .. being a possible influence on people looking to be involved in the same industry, what would you say to those who would like to start something of their own?

Trev- I strongly suggest networking.  Always networking.  If you can produce your own music and maintain a professional sound quality, you have a great start.  But it is always important to have another person you trust to assist with producing your sound.  You need that fresh set of ears to tell you something doesn't work or that part can be better or stronger.
Listen and flood your mind with bands that resonate with you.  Whether you will write in the same genre or not.  You always need influence and inspiration.  And embrace your influences.  Because when you are trying to explain your sound to someone who inquires about your art, it will be a direct way to guide them into taking a listen.  Basically just that and to not give up.  Without a band backing you up, it sometimes can drain you of your motivation.  You need to stay dedicated and discipline yourself to complete it.

BSK- How long did it take to record the last time because I heard the quality and it was amazing!
Trev- How long did the whole album take?
BSK- yeah, that and the writing process? It sounds like it took a while!

Trev- The album was started and completed in 5 years. Including mixing, mastering, artwork and pressing.  That being said, the songs weren't written.  There were just a couple fragments for Gloomy Sunday and Slither.  I spent most of my time learning.  I was introduced to new software and new (proper) ways to track your ideas.  Haha.
Once I would have a main idea I would mix it down and take it to Myron's studio to tear it apart, polish and alter.  We weren't in a rush, and we had fun and created a stronger bond.

BSK- That is awesome! .. You have one hell of a show coming up and I will just let you tell the readers about it

Trev- Indeed we do.  We are honored to have secured an opening slot for the legendary Green Jellÿ.  They are on tour with Vancouver band Nim Vind.  Both great acts and pretty cool guys.  The show takes place on April 14th 2015 live @ the Republik.  Doors at 7pm.  It's going to be insane playing the same show together and then get to take in the wild performances after we finish.
To keep up on news about the show people can find us on Facebook or go directly to our website

BSK- My final question .. The one people want hear .. What would you do in a zombie apocalypse ?

Trev- If they are old school zombies - Lock and load.

New bath salt super zombies - Bang a lethal dose of heroin and return to my home planet.
BSK- The fun questions

Trev - Haha love those ones
BSK-I think we are on the same level here .. all but the heroin part lol .. Do you have anything else to say to th readers?

Trev- I think that's it, man.  I would rather leave people hungry for more than stuff them with seconds.
Thank you for doing this!

BSK- No problem man! .! Cheers!
